Grand Seiko was founded in 1960 with the goal of building 'the ideal watch'. The Hi-Beat 9S85 calibre, introduced in 2009, was the first 36,000 vph movement Grand Seiko had produced in over four decades, reaffirming the manufacture's place at the top of mechanical chronometry.
